Overview
Lumen were commissioned by Leeds BID to create forward thinking, innovative Christmas lights using projection running at different sites in Leeds City Centre.
James at Lumen commissioned OneTenEleven to create a series of circular video loops that could be projected onto the gothic window O2 Academy, Leeds.
The installation was part of the Christmas in Leeds Art trail. #ChristmasInLeeds is a LeedsBID project designed to guide people around Leeds city centre by showcasing local creative talent and sharing festive moments.
“RADIAL at O2 Academy. James Islip at Lumen, alongside Dave Lynch and Antony Kitson, are combining their talents to beam an eye-catching projection of winter themes and tones onto the O2’s window façade, one of the most impressive features of the amazing Grade II-listed Gothic exterior of the O2 Academy. The projection is live daily from 4pm until 8pm until Dec 31st 2016.”
Abstract fractal patterns were created in Cinema4D and exported to animation. Animations were then post processed in After Effects to create Kaleidoscopic imagery. Overlaying the geometric structure of the window to create a stained glass window effect. Creating the effect of the window viewed through a Kaleidoscope.
A series of loops was then passed onto Lumen who projection mapped the animation onto the O2 Academy window.
The installation was available to view throughout December 2016.
